The NewZapp API

For the last few months our development team have been locked away in a dark room working on a special feature that will change how you manage your subscribers forever…

Introducing the NewZapp API!

One of the biggest barriers to email marketing success is the quality of data. In fact, according to the Lyris Annual Email Optimizer Report, 39% of marketers experienced higher open rates after using in-depth information on their subscribers to segment their email lists and send targeted campaigns. 28% experienced lower unsubscribe rates, and 24% experienced better deliverability and greater revenue.

So how can you make sure your lists are always up-to-date?
To make campaigns as effective as possible, you want in-depth data about each of your subscribers in your account ready to use for targeted campaigns. It’s likely you already have the information you need, it’s just stored in other systems which you have to manually export on a regular basis.  The solution is an API. By integrating these other systems with NewZapp, data can be automatically pulled to help you segment your lists, add dynamic content to emails or even trigger email campaigns to customers, all of which saves you time and money while helping to increase revenue.

What is an API?
API stands for Application Programming Interface.

  • Application: If you have a smartphone, you will be well aware of what applications are, i.e. the tools, games, social networks and other software that you use everyday.
  • Programming: Programming is how engineers or developers create all the software that make our lives so much easier.
  • Interface: An interface is a common boundary shared by two applications or programs that allow both to communicate with one another.

In the simplest terms, APIs are sets of requirements that govern how one application can talk to another. So in our case, how you can get NewZapp talking directly to your CRM system or eCommerce platform for example.

How do APIs work?
An API is the tool that makes a website’s data digestible for a computer. Through it, a computer can view and edit data, just like a person can by loading pages and submitting forms.

Making data easier to work with is a good thing because it means developers can write software to automate tedious and labour-intensive tasks. What might take a human hours to accomplish can take a computer seconds through an API.

Every time you want to access a set of data from an application, you have to call the API. But there is only a certain amount of data the application will let you access, so you have to communicate to the operator in a very specific language – a language unique to each application.

To help visualize this concept, imagine an API as the middleman between two applications (e.g. the NewZapp application and another application such as Salesforce). This middleman (API) accepts requests and, if that request is allowed, returns the data. The middleman (API) also informs the other application about everything they can request, exactly how to ask for it and how to receive it. He’s a busy little chap!

What you need to know

The NewZapp API has been designed for developers or anyone else who’s comfortable creating custom-coded solutions or integrating with RESTful APIs.

The online resource for developers is available at apidocs.newzapp.co.uk and the user guide can be found here.

Please note that due to the nature of this type of feature, the work to support/debug it is complex and requires access to our developers. It is therefore chargeable at our standard hourly rate of £90 p/hr.

If you wish to integrate the NewZapp API but don’t have a developer or think you might need a hand please contact us on hello@newzapp.com for a bespoke quote.
