Plymouth graduate shortlisted by BA as one of eight 'Great Britons'

Recognising Oliver Blackwell's talent, British Airways shortlisted him in the Innovation category of their 'Great Britons' awards. Oliver showed a flair for invention from a young age: starting with the 24-hour toaster when he was 13!  Now at 26, he has his own industrial design company and aims to go into production with the 'WashDryIron' – the world's first drumless washing machine that dries and irons.  More

Two fixed-term posts are available to graduates through the Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTP):

• Health Technologies Researcher, at Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust

Former KTP Associates helps company gain 'green credentials'

Devon company Bandvulc has had its 'green credentials' endorsed by 'The Sunday Times Best Green Companies' survey. Matteo Littera became the company's project and environmental manager after undertaking a KTP through the University of Plymouth with Bandvulc to reduce energy, emissions and waste. The company was highly rated for its low environmental impact, using local suppliers and its managers encouraging recycling.  Read more from The Times.

Developing entrepreneurial spirit in the student community

Local businesses and Plymouth Devon International College have sponsored Student Enterprise Awards as a way to develop entrepreneurial talent and creativity amongst Plymouth students. The winners include: 'The Innocence Project' where legal students work on alleged miscarriages of justice; and the Longreach sustainable garden being developed by a student for a charity working with women recovering from drug/alcohol dependency. Captain Tim Charlesworth FNI,  CEO and  Harbourmaster of Plymouth's Cattewater, was awarded Fellowship of the Institute, for his contribution to the maritime profession. More...

Peninsula Arts: celebrating the end of the summer season

As the summer season comes to an end we see performances from Verve, the award- winning postgraduate company of the Northern School of Contemporary Dance and TaskForce, a new site-art touring dance company.

On the music front, there is the final concert in our Contemporary Piano Series and the Ten Tors Orchestra plays alongside pianist Benjamin Frith in perhaps the best of Mozart's solo concertos, the D minor.

Graduating students showcase their work in the Faculty of Arts Degree Show and The Royal Photographic Society exhibition, Still Life, in Cube3 Gallery. Further details visit www.peninsula-arts.co.uk.
