10 commandments to get your email newsletters read,
not deleted...
Guest article by Onefish Twofish
It’s fair to say that both hard and soft copy newsletters have been rather overused. If we’ve read ‘Welcome to our Spring newsletter!’ once, we’ve read it a zillion times. This kind of Newsletter-For-A-Newsletter’s sake leaves us as cold as it does you.
So the trick is to take a completely different approach. Here are the 10 commandments of effective newsletter writing. Flout them and join all the other wasted words in the Deleted Items folder:
don’t call it a newsletter
make it useful
theme each edition
use regular features
turn content gathering into prospecting
don’t oversell or undersell
absolutely, positively no parish news
make it look fantastic
build your subscriber list
be proactive with the clicks
